Dear friend!
I hope this letter finds you well and that you’re able to enjoy this great almost-springtime weather!
As you may know, I have been involved with a campus ministry called Campus Crusade for Christ throughout my college career. Through Campus Crusade (CCC), God has been doing amazing things in my life and at CMU this year, which I would love to tell you more about. For now, though, I want to write and tell you about an exciting opportunity I have this summer to share Christ with college students from another country! I have been accepted onto a missions trip with Campus Crusade to Tokyo, Japan!
Tokyo, one of the most heavily populated cities on earth is not unlike those giant cities the Apostle Paul centered his ministry around, daring to go to the bustling hub of regions yet unreached by the Gospel message. The last command the Lord Jesus Christ gave leaving earth was to go and tell people of all ethnicities the good news, teaching them how to obey and love God (Matt. 28). He also said not until there is a testimony in all the nations will God's full reign on earth come (Matt. 24:14). According to joshuaproject.net, Japan is one of the largest unreached people groups in the world. As westernized as the nation of Japan is, less than 1 percent of its population (127 million) claim to be Christian.
On my Tokyo project I’ll be spending five weeks (5/19-7/3) immersed in the Big City, along with 13 teammates from other universities. We will be helping the different ministries of the Japanese CCC. We will also be spending our days on Tokyo’s different university campuses, developing relationships and sharing Christ’s love with the students there. I cannot tell you with words how excited I am about this opportunity to share the everlasting hope and joy that comes from knowing Christ to a nation in which the population of youth has some of the highest suicide rates in the world.
But of course, I cannot do this on my own. I would love it if you would help me to make this trip happen in two ways. First and foremost, so God will lead in all I do, I ask that you support me in prayer. Second, I have to raise $5150 by May 10 to cover the expenses of the Project. Will you please prayerfully consider supporting me financially by donating $75, $100, or any other amount you are able to give? Even the smallest of contributions will help greatly! Thanks so much in advance for your prayers and/or gift.
I am planning to keep up a blog to chronicle my time in Tokyo, which you can visit at jess-in-tokyo.blogspot.com. If you would like e-mail updates, please send me an e-mail, and I’ll keep you on my list of contacts for stories and prayer requests while I am in Japan. I cannot wait to be able to tell you about all the great happenings of the trip!
Joyfully and Sincerely,
Jess Jury
"We talk of the second coming, half the world has never heard of the first". --Oswald J. Smith
"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." --Jesus
"And this good news of the kingdom (the Gospel) will be preached throughout the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then will come the end." --Jesus
